Near San Luis Obispo we saw the monarch butterflies
wintering over, walked on the beach, and watched the sun set in the
Pacific. I also had the chance to see
Nick’s room, roommate, and campus.
The sunshine was almost oppressive – not hot, but incessant
for someone who has lived in cloudier climates for so long. Nick has adapted well to the climate and
lifestyle.
Cravings were for fried food – the Japanese food, on the
average, does not have much fat, and Nick and I were happy to head for fish and
chips on night one.
